Magnus,
I think the first image is outstanding (but I think I'd dodge the eye to make it more visible), and although the second image gives a sense of place to the first, I think it is a much weaker image and detracts from it. The portrait I'd expect to see on the back page of a Daily newspaper or the Front cover of "Triathlon Monthly"...it's so good it overpowers the swimmers. IMHO.

Martin.

Without wishing to sound like a gushing fool, your post processing continually amazes me.

They are fantastic shots. Really atmospheric. Beautifully processed too.

I think that the two shots would work very well together in terms of a photo essay. I'd love to see some more shots from the series.

I don't think that you should touch his eye any more than I think you already have done as it will look too false. If anything, I would darken it down a tiny bit as it stands out just that little bit too much.

Thanks guys, for taking the time to comment

Your spot on about the eye, Emma. I first tried to lighten the whole area, but it looked completely fake.

Both images suffers from downsizing for the web but especially in the splashing water a lot of detail is lost which makes it look a bit flat compared to the original.
