i like the composition and i think it does.

have you got versions with all in focus and then the back in focus with dof dropping off towards the front?

It's a nice idea, but it doesn't quite work for me.

Mainly I think it's a bit too tight, there's not enough context. I'd like for the camera to be a bit lower and further back. Lower so you could see the horizon and the road disappearing in the distance and further back so you could see a bit more of the rear of the car, perhaps the top of the rear lights...

For me it's also a problem that the mirror is so dark, it needs to be lighter with more detail. Of course if you could see the reflection of the driver in the mirror it would really lift the whole image to another level.

Like I said it's a really nice idea, but not "there" yet...

No.

was just thinking you could lay them out underneath each other. one with back in focus at the top, then the car all in focus in the middle and then the one with front in focus at the bottom.

i know i've already said i like the composition but that works really well on the rule of thirds for me.

Agreed with Magnus.

The concept's a good'un but could benefit from aforementioned tweaks.

I love it really.

The grass is a bit of a distraction though. Be better if it was all grey. IMPO.

I couldn't get it how you all said because it's on a downhill slope...whenever I lowered the camera I lost the mirror And Justin left my camera on L jpeg so they might have lost something.

Had had another play today in the same spot, which of these options is best then?

1)

2)

3)

4)

And one of the front numberplate evil

The original photo needs something to look at. As it stands, your eye wanders around it and loses interest. Maybe you could have the drivers face (or part of) reflected in the mirror?

Number 2 in that last set almost works, but would benefit from seeing the driver (preferably with a helmet on - a la Stig) in the mirror. As someone once said to me over on the RetouchPro forums: when critiquing a picture, first ask "what's the story?" Add a suitably attired driver, and you've got your "story" with that long, inviting straight ahead.
