At risk of asking a very regular question here (I'll apologise now) I have recently lost my Sony Cybershot on the Ski slopes of Zermatt. As im sure you can tell from the camera in question, I am definitely not an expert so a 'point and squirt' replacement will be necessary.

I also want something similar in size (i.e will fit in a pocket) but obviously want good quality etc. I also found that the lost Sony was terrible at night shots so I wouldn't mind improving on that side of things!

Regarding price point - lets say a max of £300 (but from what I have seen so far I think this should be more than enough?)

All suggestions appreciated pls

Cheers,

Steve M

Have a look at the Fuji F30 and F31 models, they're particularly good in low light.

A mate of mine is raving about his new Canon S3 - he previously had a slick Sony that got nicked.

I've always heard that it's best to stay away from Sony compacts...this was a while back though so no idea how the latest stuff compares.

If it was my money I'd be looking at the Panasonic and Canon stuff...

Got a Canon PowerShot A710 after Christmas, now less then £200 at some places (Jessops!) and I'm gobsmacked at the quality.

It has a fully manual mode, Image Stabiliser, takes AA batteries and SD cards, 6x zoom and you can buy extra lenses for it.

Interesting... Is there any rechargable options for the power source or do you just buy rechargable batteries?

Just to add that apparently the newer model doesn't get as good reviews as the 710...

Just rechargeable batteries. You can buy a power source for when the camera is deskbound

That review is for the Ixus, not PowerShot...
