Seeing as work was a no no, TV & Hi Fi didn't work, e mail was down, PH was a distant dream... and the only two things that were working were a dog and a compact camera, I used both.

(Charlie's idea - not mine)

No TV? eek

No HiFi? eek

No computer? eek eek

I'd get one of these:

and a tank of fuel. Nice video though, Charlie is a lucky boy!

Steve

If you do for a generator, may I suggest the following:-

1) Get one with a big fuel tank
2) We had the incoming electricity feed in our house fed through a big switch to the consumer unit. The switch is 3-way: Mains Electricity/Off/Generator

In the event of long power failure, we can connect the generator in (through a plug I have on the outside of the house) and switch over. We then can run basic services, fridge/freezer/a few lights/central heating pump/etc, no kettles/washing machines !!

Needless to say since I've done all this we have had no significant power cuts (before I had several some multiple days)

Be also wary that some electronic kit doesn't like the waveform generated by generators

Presumably you remembr to trip the house breaker first, otherwise your generator will be trying to power all your neighbours' houses too!
