Just been playing with it for half an hous, and all I can say is........

OH MY GOSH ITS SHARP!!

I've finally found pin-sharp heaven! The large screen (coming from an original D70 with tiny screen) and the zoom in functions are superb.

I've been using the mirror lock up which is going to be a god-send for my night stuff. Really excited about just how sweet it is to use!

For anyone else out there wondering if they should upgrade, DO IT. The difference is massive!

Thanks to SGirl for the subtle persuasion!

Couple of questions...

I received a Nikon remote (not as exciting as a D200 & lens ), can you not focus with the remote like you can with the 2 stage shutter button?

Also a circular polariser that I got has a rotating centre section - does this do anything?

For the record, I bought this D200 and lens myself. I don't have super loaded parents unfortunatly.

The curc polariser rotates in order to set it Platrinum. If you screw it on and look through the lans at a river/lake of contrasty clouds, then rotate the front, you'll see the contrasts change from light to dark.

The remote should also focus. You will need the settings on the camera to be correct and on AF to achieve this though.

ps. Steve, I'm on my parents super slow connection so can't get your vid yet. On the D200 front, I also have not loaded any shots onto the pc yet but the very first one I took with it of my little 2 yr old nephew is a head and shoulders shot, and I can zoom in so far that his eye fills the 2.5" screen. The detail is stunning even on the lcd screen! Every little eye lash is sharp and it must be 200%!! I'm very

I have enclosed a picture of my Mum on the beech a couple of years ago.

I thought that might be the purpose, but it wasn't bright enough on Christmas day to tell. I was getting shutter speeds of 1/3sec.

The remote does focus, but it doesn't seem to have the two stage button like that on the camera. (Not that it really matters.)

Thanks for the help. thumbup

Greg,
Does the 80-400 give better results with the D200 nailed to it?

Good call on the camera old chap, it really is a huge step up from the d70 isn't it?

Steve, is there a reason you want a large fine sample? Is it for the body or the lens? If it's the body I'll whack one up from mine.

My number one christmas present arrived 10 minutes ago when I finally got a working broadband connection from Sky. Only took 90 days from placing the order, 85 of which I had no connection at all.....

I have one of them...

..but talking photography, since my D1x died I kinda' like the idea of a 2nd body (no I have one of them also) - Thought the D50 might do, but it doesn't (and it's hers anyway).

Just thought I should have a look see at the relative quality (and I have lots of those).
