I thought I embrace a bit of ISO Noise (on the old 300D) during a game of cards last night...

...not quite Casino Royal but we enjoyed ourselves!

Nice work Nick. I think the noise works and adds a depth to them.

I can remember buying super fast b/w film during my GCSE photog exams souly to add grain, now we all seem to spend loads of £££ on kit that iradicates it.

I'm also starting to think that maybe you have one leg shorter than the other. hehe

I really like them - capture the mood very well!

How did you add the noise; did you ramp up the ISO or did you ad it in afterwards? You have some very shallow depths of field in there; is that from a very wide aperture or did you blur afterwarsd?

Really like them!

Thanks guys, I like a bit of noise now and again

Tony, all I've done with these is convert them to B&W using the gradient map tool and adjust the levels. They were all shot with my old 300D at ISO 1600, 50mm lens set at f1.8 for every shot, no flash.

ah that will explain it! That's the lens I'm quite tempted by actually - not expensive (well £70ish?!) and will add a whole new dimension to my portrait ability!

Best £70 you will spend for your camera IMHO

Great pics BBB, the noise works well.

I was shooting ISO800 at a wedding this weekend, and was so happy that the D200 noise is nothing like as bad as the D70 was.

Likewise with the 300D vs 5D

I love that lens too. Not used it nearly enough (or the camera at all lately) though

black and white images with noise can work really well - great examples here. sets the mood of the subject well.
