Guys,

I've searchd about, but not found a sony successor to this fine implement despite it being around 4 years old now. Can anyone suggest something thats a 'step forward' - i.e. bigger lens / zoom, and more megapixels, without me having to become a professional and spend hours agonizing over F settings when frankly I just don't have a clue or the patience!

Cheers

Rich,

I've got the Sony DSC-R1, and it's a great bit of kit - well worth a look

cheers ed will take a look.
I'm just a bit scared of havig more features than my little brain can cope with - otherwise I'll spend too much time arsing about with the camera and not enough taking pics!

More megapixels why? isnt the 717 5 megapixels? More pixels doesnt mean better pictures..

Lens is 39mm to 190mm, plenty with a longer zoom and/or wider but the sony sugested above isnt one of them, that has 24(good) to 120(bad) if your looking for more 'zoom' and 8 megapixels.

May I sugest the Panasonic DMC-FZ50, 10megapixels and 35-420mm zoom with IS.

Indeed. Thing is I'm planning to print photos at A3 to hand on the wall, and I'm finding things a little fuzzy at the moment with the few I've tried.

Rob, having looked at the spec for the R1 it's a nice camera, but iindeed the zoom is still only 5x. you can swap lenses on it though which is an interesting option. Probably a bit too much hassle for a fairweather photogapher like me.

Appreceate the suggestion of the Fugi, the 35-420 sounds like bigger numbers than the Sony so I assume this means more zoom. Will go check out the spec.
