hey,

i have been interested in doing macro photography for quite a while but i have a few questions relating to which kit is the best way to first experiment.

1) which would you suggest is the better first thing to get? extenstion tubes or a reversing ring?

2)if the answer to 1 is reversing ring, which lens would it be best to get one for? i have the D70s kit lens (18-70), sigma 75-300, nikon 50 1.8 prime (the kit lens and the 75-300 have the same size thread on the end so really the question is: is one of my lenses likely to be much better than the others for macro if reversed thus ruling out the need for more than one reversing ring?)

3) is there any point geting anything other than the most basic extension tube or reversing ring? there seem to be quite a few people selling them for peanuts on ebay, will these really cheap ones pose problems? (other than finding a reliable seller ofcourse)

cheers
chris

A set of extension rings is the most versatile. Go for this first then think about a reversing ring to do both! Different lengths extensions would be a bonus.

Worst thing about the D70 is the amount of camera shake it manages to generate by itself at 1/8th to about 1/30th if you stick it on a tripod. That's becasue there's no mirror lock up.

cheers.

i got all excited when i saw "mirror lockup" in the settings menu but was then very dissapointed to find that you could only use it to clean the sensor! very annoying.
