So I've been trying my hand at skylines at sunset and i feel the need for some constructive critism. I'm not entirely happy with either the second one in particular. I am willing to go and try at least the second one again (i'd have to pay to go out and do the first again and it's bloody cold out on lake ontario) if anyone can recommend a method to increase my chances of success.

The 2nd one would be perfect if the tower wasn't obscured by that building.

yes CN Tower would look far better if it were isolated.

Agreed.

Also, No 1 would be better if the lake didn't have a slope. I used to do that all the time until some git on here pointed it out rolleyes

You can't get away from the CN Tower being the dominant subject in the shot so I'd try and place it at a 1/3 of the way across the shot instead of in the middle or at the edge. You've gone for a panoramic crop which is good, you may even be able to take a little more off for an even more powerful effect.

The first shot was taken at the widest end of your lens which has led to some distortion of the tower on the right hand side, as you've got Photoshop you should be able to correct this before you sort out the sloping horizon.

The colours in the sky are great though.

I really like them, particularly the colours. If you want to try something else, it might be interesting to try taking two exposures one for the sky and another to have the city lights bright and then bring them together in PS.

Trouble with "moving" the cn tower in the second is that i was about 4km away with one of the only unobstructed views of downtown toronto. I was north east and from that angle the cn tower would always be behind the downtown buildings.

Move to Queen St. West. I had a great view when I was living there.

I love the 1st shot, btw.
