I read that thread and have been giving it a go.
Used with care and discretion I've got stunning results.

However, it did take me a while to get decent looking results and the end result is inly marginally different to how I would have traditionally done it with Photoshop in about the same time.

I think it's going to be worth persisting with though...

On my D70s you can use Bucket(BKT) shooting (guess you need tripod to keep everything the same for overlaying) and go a stop or so above and below which I guess will make doing these types of shots tons easier!? Need to try them out but had no good reason yet these seem like a good excuse

Did a few of these on my old compact for HDRI envmaps for use in a 3d program, but they use about 10 exposure's and about 100 images (overall) for a 360deg stiched HDRI (I cheated and shot a small chrome ball for a low-res hemisphere )

1st one looks like a screen grab from Gran turismo 4.

The rest are better though. I do like the TVR shot.

Very handy, didn't realise the camera would record so much data in the first stop, makes sense but never thought of it like that

I guess if your using RAW at all it makes even more sense to optimise the exposure!

Thanks, that should come in handy...

Some interesting bits and pieces here... www.debevec.org/

HDR images are so powerful when it comes to 3d work, some nice HDR (adjustable) panorama's linked (far left Siggraph 06 link)

Great site, looks like it's just been recently updated too.

I've managed to waste a few hours playing around with this today! I really need to get some descent shots to try it properly.

Now, I've taken RAW images and converted them to 3 images with -2/0/+2 exposure (RawShooter). How can I convert an existing JPG I have into 3 images with -2/0/+2? I have PSP v8 but can't see any obvious way.

I'm not after quality pics, just want to play around a bit with the effects until I can take some suitable photos.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Bracketing - quite an established technique for exposing different parts of a scene differently

So weird.

Why do reflections and diffuse from bright things still look bright, but the things that are causing those diffuse blow-outs of light and are being reflected don't look bright!?

I'm not so keen generally because of the above, looks too un-natural. The road is white because of the sky's intensity of white vs the exposure for the road, but then the sky isn't white!? Ummmmmm...

So how many stops above and below are people going for?
