Just been outside trying out my new lens (Sigma 70-300mm). Impressed with it so far. Going out later this afty to get some shots for my next college project.

It's weird having to stand so far away from things when using macro! laugh The extra weight of the lens does make it quite difficult to keep the camera steady without a tri/monopod.

Couple of quick tasters.

I like! clap
I'm getting that exact lens, it's been on order for a week or so now and I'm itching to get my hands on it.

What body are you using?

I'm hoping that the SR in the Pentax K100D I use will help with some of the long range macro stuff.

D50

I did go out last night and take some shots for my next college project but it was getting dark and I forgot my tripod (idiot), so didn't have as much success with the distance shots. I bought it mainly for shooting motorsport so I'll let you know how I get on after this coming sunday !

These are from the more expensive APO version rather than the £99 one, but they are both pretty good for the money.

Ive had a D50 for about 10 weeks and the APO version of this lens for about 5 weeks. Like everyone else says - cracking lens!
This is straight off the camera

Just got mine.

It zooms quite a bit! I think there will be frequent lens changing...even at 70mm everything is still too close...

Numpty question: What does one use the aperture ring for, when you can select the f-stop in camera...?

For older cameras that can't control the aperture. Or for playing with and going "ooh". Always looks like I'd imagine a door on a space station should look. paperbag

Aperture priority

F4.2
1/640
focal length 110mm
ISO 200 ( hehe )

Then everything else on default (d50)

I'm too shaky to use the zoom without a tripod though.

I had that lens as my first telephoto jobby. Works very well for the cash and it's a very versatile range.

As with any relatively low cost lens though, make sure to stop it down at least 2 or 3 stops to get the best out of it

Enjoy thumbup

D50 as well. Cool. I'm taking it out tomorrow for the first trial at motorsport. Quite looking forward to it.

I'm too shaky too without a tripod. I don't think the extra weight helps with that as I am definitely less shaky with the smaller lens fitted.

Oh well
