In preparation for the fireworks extravaganza we have coming up, I'd like to buy myself a remote release. However I'm a bit confused as to what I actually need.

I have a Canon 20D, and I get the impression that along with the cable itself I need some form of adapter to accept it first? I've got that from the canon site but it only shows the products, not which ones I need (if that makes sense). And I can't find anything on the likes of Jessops - so it may be that I'm searching for the wrong thing!?

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Thanks lovely people
T

You don't need an adaptor to use a cable release with a 20D. Just need to right cable release.

The Canon ones are the RS-80N3 or the TC-80N3 but you can get copies on ebay a fair bit cheaper

Here's a link to the cheapest Canon RS-80N3 I could find (not through ebay):

No worries. I'm using the RS one with my 20D and it is fine. Only trouble is that the cable is a little short but I have bought some kit from Maplin to extend it (rather than pay the ludicous price that Canon ask for their extension)

There's a guy on ebay in Germany who sells them with 10m cords for about £10. I got one and it's fine. I can't get onto ebay at work as it's barred or I would give you a link.

I believe they are made by Addit (sp?). I got one off ebay for about £10. A little fragile feeling but they work and cost a fraction of the Canon price. Well worth it.

All the ones I can find on ebay at the moment are £10-15 but have £8 of postage because they come from Hong Kong! There's a few genuine Canon ones in auctions that end in a couple of days so I'll bid on them, if no luck I might buy the canon one for £28 - it's only a tenner more and will come in 1 day not 2 weeks!

Thanks again everyone for your help

I have the timer one, bought it in New York for $100. At the time the same product over here was about £130. Got to love this country.

I took mine and chopped the cable - I now use a bit of Cat 5 as the length restriction. Works so far up to 30M

Or I can just join the two small pieces.
