Hi,

Does anyone know what I mean by the thread title?

I'm after getting some software that will help create a picture "mosaic" buy selecting other, tiny, pictures to make up the "pixels".

I can't, for the life of me, think what they're "called" to search on google.

Thanks in advance,
Phil.

Called photomosaics.

IIRC - Photosuite has this feature built in...point the wizard at the picture you want to have 'done', then point the wizard at the photos it has to use to make up the final image.

Also if you're using Photoshop, could you copy all the ones you want in the mosaic into a new folder and then use the the File, Automate, Contact Sheet option?

I think I have that one. It came free with one of the photo magazines. I'll see if I can find it.

Ok, I've found the CD, and the one I have is called 'Easy Mosaic'. If anyone wants it, I can extract the files from the CD and send them to you.

Yeah - Dad's 60th, portrait of him made up of pictures of him (through the years), his hobbies, his children, his grandchildren etc. Just a little "keep sake".

There are two different types - one uses any old photos, but puts on shading over each individual photo to make up the mosaic. Better software picks out the correct photo for each point on the mosaic, so that the photo used is one that has the right colours and graduations/shades in the right place in the photo to work in the picture. You need a lot more photos to get decent results out of the second type, but the results aren't such a 'cheat'.

Are both available "free"?

Would 500 photos be a good size, or rather small in your experience?
