Im thinking of getting one of these for some point and squirt fun and snaps, as I have sold almost all of my canon digital gear.

Does anyone know if the lumix cameras are any good or has anyone used one of this specific model. Truth be told ive never got over the loss of my sony 717 which produced great photos:

One of the chaps in my office got one fairly recently and he really rates it. He's out atm so can't ask him which one it is but he's well happy with it.

He uses an EOS 3 for his main camera but got the Lumix for something more convenient and discrete.

I keep checking back, hoping to find a review for that one. Going by the G series it should be good.

Not for me though, as it is considerably bigger and more clunky than the compacts and ultra-compacts unfortunately.

Hi Matt,

Not used that model, but I bought my wife an FZ7 (which is pretty similar) in August.

Although not very experienced, she's taken several good shots, and now carries it with her all the time - thoroughly enjoys using it.
A few of her photos are on here:

I'm pretty impressed with it in terms of ease of use and quality of photos. The 12x (35mm equiv 36-432mm) zoom is pretty good. At the time we looked at FZ7, Canon S3, Sony H5 but she decided on the Panasonic as it was easier to hold.
Conrad.

I've got an FZ20 and the noise is a problem over and including ISO 400.
My brother has just bought an FZ50 and he says it's much better up to about 800, but whilst playing with his I noticed the shutter lag with the FZ20 doesn't.

well, noise might well be a problem at high iso's, but to be honest its no diferent than using a 400asa film, at least you can sort it in software.

i wouldnt let that put you off the camera though, it has plenty more upsides than down.

I keep wandering back to the fixed focal length Ricoh GR Digital.

A friend of mine bought one a while back after a motorbike accident meant he couldn't hold his SLR steady. He's since recovered but still uses the Ricoh a lot. Consistently turns out some great images from it.

i have got the ricoh film equivalent, the gr and its a decent camera with a superbly sharp lens. however it is limiting with the fixed focal length, you can get a wide angle conversion lens for the grd, but you really need to be spending about £550 plus vat to get the "creative kit" with all the addons.

28mm I think on the Digital. That's "enough" for me and, as hinted at by my 400L and a couple of other lenses, I'm a bit of a sucker for primes
