A few snaps of a lizard on holiday,

Taken with my macro lense The little guy was very quick but allowed me to get quite close before scampering!

These pics are reduced down so I can upload them, but the full resolution shots are very cool! Really like the macro lense, just need to find some more small things to photograph.

Anyone know what kind of lizard it is? is it a newt? It was taken in Florida if that helps. Also I dont know if this normal or some battle damage on em, the little hole behind the ear!

One strange thing is the background has blacked out for some reason (no editing in photoshop - straight from camera), they were actually taken during a really sunny day! I quite like the effec though.

Hello, nice pics.

It is definately not a newt, and the 'hole' is quite normal, nothing to worry about. I have no idea what species it is though.

I think the hole is actually it's ear!

Not sure of the species I'm afraid

The big obvious eye sized hole futher down its head is the lizards ear.

I used to have a Leopard Gecko but that was before I got my camera sob sob.

whilst we are on the subject. How can i find a good macro camera? My next camera might be a Dslr but for the time being point and shoot. What does it mean on the front of a lense when it says 24-140mm?? is that millimetres? If i forget to reply please do a new thread cos i have a habit of forgetting to read old posts.

thanks

mm is Millimeters yes so I'm guessing the focus distance is between 24-140mm (2.4-14cm)

If you buy a DSLR, there are various ways of macro photography;
A dedicated Macro lens,
Extension tubes,
A lot of lens have a Macro feature but its not as good as a true Macro lens.
You can also reverse 50mm lens to gain the same effect.

I'm sure other people will be able to provide a better answer but thought I'd chuck in my 2 pence.

Beat me to it.

We ended up with one of those in the room on honeymoon...at night...in the pitch black...walking all over a carrier bag (foot of the bed) and making a LOT of noise. You have never seen two people move to the centre of the bed quicker!!! Scared the .... out of us. Then it squeaked (I think that's how they got the name) and we worked it out. idea

As for little lizards...does this count?!? Big brother (5-6ft or more) was also around but I didn't get that close to him! yikes
(apologies for photo-quality...it was a little digi-compact on auto)

That does look pretty sinister lol! I wouldn't have went near it either!

Does anyone know why I can't use the F-ring on my macro? Just get an error on the camera. I need to have it set to F32 all the time and use the aperture adjustment button on the camera body???

Its a sigma lense on a Nikon D70 body? Is it because it's not a Nikon lense?

Thanks

Stuart
