Shuttershock Has Destroyed This Forum...

Ok, maybe a little too dramatic a title, but I can't help but feel that the constant 'Is this photo good enough to sell for 0.0002p?' topics have led to a massive reduction in the amount of good photographers posting on here.
To name but three, good photographers such as; dcw@pr, bacchus180 and ed hasler hardly seem to post anything these days. It may be for totally different reasons to what I'm pointing towards, but I can't help but feel there may be a connection.
What's happened to the discussions on pin-hole photography attempts, messing with horrible little Holga's etc?
edited to say: touch paper lit, I'll now stand back

Personally, I think its very inspirational.Whilst I will NEVER take pics as good as Carter, Gravy, bob et al, it DOES sho what is possible.
As a prt time hobbyist, I still find it satisfying to see good pics, and on the very, very rare occasion I feel I have that can be offered for critique, it is always valuable and not demeaning.
Let us not get into a photo snobs stance pls, ok, some people have left, but there will always be more waiting in the ranks.
At the end of the day, a pic is only as good as YOU think it looks.
One mans meat is anothers gravy, so to speak.
Hope that all makes sense.I take a few snaps, and find myself totally awestruck my some of the pics offered up here.
Just my 2c worth.

Personally I find the stock stuff thoroughly boring, and if I see one more formatted refferal link to shutterstock, dreamstime or my big fat stock hole I think I might cry.
But that's easy to avoid, I just don't look at the threads about stock. It's a free world and whilst I can't see the point of microstock in terms of effort/outlay vs reward, others clearly can, and more power to them.
Perhaps the PH photography forum is a microcosm of the photography industry as a whole, there is much talk that microstock is killing off the photography industry...

I just find it boring nowadays, but thats because the group dynamic has changed from a small group full of banter to a Q&A techno wankfest. There was definately a tipping point a few months back where the camera became more important than the photo. Tbh, the majority of the technical threads here could be answered by looking on fredmiranda dpreview google etc. The forum used to be about sharing photos, inspiration and techniques and I learnt a lot here.
I must confess a personal belief that the quality of a photo is determined by the creative vision of the photographer: you either see the photo or you dont, so the tools become irrelevant on that level. They only really matter when they stop you executing your vision, and that shouldnt be a problem for most people, because the modern digital camera or dslr is an amazing machine.
Anyways, it doesnt really bother me, because as someone else mentioned, you look at the threads you look at and you dont look at the others. I owe this forum an enormous debt because I have met some extraordinary people, and some friends for life. Its a shame that from my pov its gone down the shitter, but that being said, checking is a compulsion, i cant deny, and there is the odd nugget of greatness.

Gravy/Carter et al,
Im curious, do you think the fact that, from what I can see, most dslrs require their output to be run thru cs2 or similar to make a good pic has changed both photog for good and also the input into this forum?
Im curious, because the best pics I have taken, were motorsport based, but using and old, manual Fuji camera with a 80/210 lens, and yet I cannot get even close to the quality of them with a modern dig cam. albeit a non slr.

Warning ! - Inebriated ramble begins :
I want photographs to give me a narrative, that make me stare at my monitor for 30mins as i ponder them. I couldn't give a monkeys shit if it's a 1/3 stop -ev or if it displays noise at 300%. I very rarely run any of my shots through photoshop, not because they can't be improved but because I absolutley hate spending time doing things that give me no pleasure. Set exposure the best you can, set the white balance the best you can and shoot. I don't want to earn a living doing it, I don't want to enter competitions, I'm not even overkeen posting them as happy snaps because they are often my personal memories with all the meaning that goes with them.
Just the thought of an hour or two spent with a light tent, an onion and noise ninja or this weeks latest killer app is enough to make me want to smash my camera.
On the forum side of things, it takes all sorts to make the world go round, so if the stock guys post it, I ignore it. No harm done. But less and less around here to read.

I decided a while ago that I wouldn't post here.
Personally I'm not interested in the business of taking pictures. It seems likea whole pile of stress to me.... Hiking up a hillside, jumping out of a plane, hanging by your fingernails from a disused gasometer.......
I'm quite interested in photography, but mainly because a camera is an instrument. I like looking at other peoples pictures. I hadn't noticed any sort of downturn.
Anyway like I said..... I decided that I'd not post here!

I usually avoid those sorts of threads because I know how long it takes to evaluate an image properly and explain the whys and the therefores. I also avoid giving feedback because I strongly believe that if you want to learn how to take better photographs you need a formal structure in place to do so effectively. In short, if you want to learn how to take better pictures, go to college or read some books that illustrate points with detailed explanations and illustrations, in a way that you possibly could not do on here, unless of course you had a great deal of time on your hands.
I do, nevertheless, enjoy looking at people's work on here, but that is a very different scenario from the, "Ooh what do you think? Should I have shot this differently? If so, how would you have done it? Would you have used a filter, would you have used a bit of fill in..."
As far as the technical threads are concerned, I find them interesting from the point of view that I am interested to hear about people's experience of the lastest offering from say, Canon. It doesn't stop me from reading dpreview or consulting the guys at Calumet, but it provides an additional insight.
