I take it you sign up, post some photos (which need to be approved), and you get paid if they're used.

Does the original photographer keep the copyright?

How much do you get paid (ie is it a one off fee, but the "buyer" can use the image ad infinitum)?

Or should I just stop being lazy and Google it?

its a microsite where you get arse raped on your pictures lol

you sign up and submit 10 pics of which 7 need to pass. you then up load as many as you want and so long as they are accepted. if you keep getting rejected for the same reason they give you warnings. I'm sure the resident stock whore will be along to tell you more.

you get 25c for each picture and the minimum payout is $75.

Here are the stock sites I have signed up with, including the link to shutterstock.

Shutterstock
Dreamstime
istockphoto
Bigstock

As Poah has said, you get 25c per sale on shutterstock, but you can make up to $20 per sale if buyers buy the rights. No, buyers cant buy the ownership and copyright (you keep that, so you can continue to do what you like with your images) - you keep your images copyright and ownership etc, so you can sell them elsewhere... but buyers can choose whether they want to buy an image which they can use once, or thousands of times (tshirts, mugs, print runs, whatever) or whether they have unlimited rights, ie they can use your image millions of times without paying you royalties each time. But at all times on shutterstock, the copyright and ownership will remain yours (I think... I dont think they have any "sell rights" options for photographers)

Shutterstock will earn you more money than any of the other MICROstock websites. Ive been shooting (very much part time) for 3 months, and am making well over £100 a month now (just from shutterstock).

If you mean my gallery, its here Best selling images should be displayed first, which gives you an idea of what sells best and what doesnt

Edited to add... theres a lot of crap in my gallery paperbag I upload the good the bad, everything which is technically good enough to get accepted by the reviewers.

Ive got some ass, just not sure what to do with it hehe

When Ive got time later this year, or when ive done another model shoot, I'll learn a few PS skin processing tutorials then sling the ass up on shutterstock.

Thanks Bob, do you ever get to know what people use the images for - do they give feedback of any kind ?

Oh, and you're sure milking that one way sign ;-)

I think Dreamstime has a feedback option of some kind, but I dont know the system as I upload, categorise then log off. Last I checked I had no feedback, I dont think buyers really tend to give feedback so the odds of you finding out who bought what and usage are still slim to none.
