Hi folks

Just got back from the Austec Open Day and have a load of photos that I've taklen with my new 350D.

Trouble is, I'd left the White Balance on Tungsten so all the photos I took on programme modes are wrong. The ones I took on auto are fine, of course.

Is there any way I can post-process these photos to correct the White Balance? I don't have PhotoShop, just GIMP and the Canon tools that came with the camera.

Thanks in advance
Jon

A quick google reveals that there is a colour balance option on GIMP. You coud have a fiddle with that.

PS I know how it feels to set the white balance wrong, I wen for a day out with the WB set to my light tent. irked

Dont you shoot RAW, WB settings dont effect the shot in RAW.

There is a raw effect plugin within PS, not sure where it is available though.

Not at the moment, but I think I will be in future. paperbag

You've got to remember that I've only just bought the camera.

I have just bought the same. I have gimp and gimp photo but it appears I need a raw plugin to manipulate the raw, which I have found but cannot get it to work. On a mac btw and its probably me putting it in the wrong place. Lucky I have elements that does it but like to get gimp working. Amazing what can be done.

There does appear to be a few free raw fiddler/muck around with thingies as well but this is all new to me, still learning.

I've changed the settings on my camera so that in future it will save photos taken in programme modes as JPEG + RAW, but obviously that doesn't help me for the Austec photos.

Not sure how well this will work, but if you use th ephoto filter in PS then you might be able to cancel out most of the effect of the tungston WB setting.

I agree. I'd try 85 filter first, then try colour balance and reduce the level of blue and cyan if more adjustment is required.

Easy answer - use Canon DPP (Digital Photo Professional) that came with the camera.

(despite them mainly pushing this as a RAW tool, it works with JPEGS too)

Open the pic, display the tool window, then you'll need to go to the second tab that will show you the colour curves etc.

There is a button marked 'Click' above the curves, press this, then move the mouse over a roughly grey area of the photo, that will get it somewhere close.

Incidentally, if you hold the mouse button down, you can see the effect on the picture as you move the pointer over different parts of the pic.
