The road up to Mt Cook/Aoraki that features in Ben's photo above.
I lived at Mt Cook village for 3 years and drove this road often. It was comfortable at 70-75mph in my old chev; there were a lot of people that did a lot faster. It's around 40 miles from the turnoff to the village and generally flows nicely; there's just a couple of single lane bridges to slow you down.

Often swarming with tourist campervans and erratically driven rental cars these days (especially in summer), you'd be lucky to maintain that speed for too long on that road now! Combined with NZ police being increasingly anal about speed and hiding in a blind spot to ticket you for going 6km/h above the speed limit...

I tend to just cruise closer to the speed limit on main highways now and have my fun on quieter roads.

I grew up a couple of hours away from there (Timaru) and used to visit pretty frequently to climb hills etc, it was always a nice drive.

Here's an unusual view of Bealach na Bà up in NW Scotland - taken back when I was immortal and flew Paragliders.
There's a dot on the horizon, just under that is my mate flying as well.
