Hi

I have an old Mini Dv camcorder & want to transfer the videos (20 years old but work on the camera) to my windows 10 laptop ideally.

I’ve been looking around, but unclear as to what I need, or if it is possible.

Can anyone advise please?

Below is a pic of the camera, female S-Video out
Laptop has usual USB / HDMI
I don’t have any S-Video cables, lost years ago..

Thanks in advance

I think youd need an S video capture device / cable

Something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-USB-VIDEO-CA...

and I think youd need an S video cable too, as the port on the DV cam is female, and the port on the capture dongle is female. (and i think s video cables were male to male)

Then theres just figuring out the software to do the capturing. OBS is free, and i think would work with this. And is popular enough theres a lot of guides online on how to use it.

How many tapes have you got? - It could be worth sending off to a compnay to digitise the lot for you. Otherwise its a lot of sitting around and fiddling for hours!

Thanks for the advice.

I read a thread further down (I should have read it earlier!)

Half a dozen or so, plus the ancient wedding videos thinking about it, I’ll get them done by a company I think.
