canon 'FD' lenses
Discussion
Hope someone can help:-
>
Just bought a Canon 800 FD 'L' from a local charity shop
Have previously used old Canon FD and Olympus 'OM' MF lenses with all my Eos 'EF' Digital SLR's without problems, just bought a new R7 body - my first electronic SLR, so I hope someone knows :-
Whether it's possible to get a Canon R7 to release it's shutter [either - electronic or manual] when fitted with a MF Lens -see pic'.
Have tried adjusting all things in the R7 menus without success, also moved the R7's AF/MF front body switch - no joy.
Looked in the online Canon R7 PDF 'Advanced users' manual couldn't find any mention of fitting older MF lenses - hopefully I missed something simple.

With the R7's 'IBIS' system, MF lenses would benefit from the 'IS' - provided I can get the camera's shutter to release.

Rene,
I don't have a R7 but have R3 and R5, so suspect they are similar.
Check Custom Settings (Orange Menu) on your camera. There should be a Menu item that is called "Release Shutter w/o lens". On the R3 it's at the bottom of page 6 of the Orange menu. Change that to 'Enable' and that should solve your issue I think.
When you are using a basic mount convertor, like the FD to RF one, the camera doesn't know that a lens is attached and won't let you fire the shutter unless your override the settings.
The 800mm FD is a lovely lens by the way - used to use one many years ago to shoot cricket. How much did you pay? I think they are still worth a fair bit of money as a lot of the big white telephoto FD lenses are converted to video mounts and used for filming.
Hope this helps,
John

yep thanks for that - be easier if Canon said in the camera menus - 'enable this setting to use a manual focus lens on body'

Less than 3 figures - don't really need it I already have an EF 800 'L' IS. but at that price it's a great spare - when I get time I want to see whether the EF is better than the FD - the R7's in body 'IS' will help steady it though the weight is a bit less than the EF version [probably due too all the AF & IS gubbins in the newer lens!!
