Anyone had to have a Sony camera repaired in the UK?

Got my trusty RX100 out of its case today to check all ok before a day trip and the camera keeps power cycling in an endless loop.

Google-fu suggests new motherboard required.

Do Sony offer in house repairs? I really don't want to go down the rabbit hole on someone throwing parts at it.

I can't be specific re Sony, but I made enquiries about a replacement sensor for a Panasonic MFT I have at a local camera shop. In my case, the UK Panasonic repair base is a few miles away. I was told there's a charge just for looking at the camera to trouble-shoot. It wasn't cheap. Fair enough, this cost is taken from the final charge, which is OK, but if it is found to be unrepairable, or not economic, that's wasted money.

If you know what's wrong and what the cost is to repair, then you can make an informed value decision. Otherwise, I'd be looking at the second-hand prices of an identical camera.

(Or a new one.)

It looks like Sony do have a central repair facility:

https://services.sony.co.uk/supportmvc/en/BookServ...

This link give the details - it will cost £20 plus shipping to get an estimate:

Of course there are authorised repair centers as well.

Had a similar problem on my old RX10 mk iii - ended up being uneconomic to repair but probably still worth for a rx100 vii I suspect. Worth giving fixation a try perhaps as another option as they were recommended to me as well.

I've used Fixation (was independent, now part of WEX) for repairs and servicing for Nikon in the past. They also repaired my RX100 IV when the flash stopped working. Can recommend. Handy for me in London as I could visit in person, but I guess they do repairs via mail as well.

Camera collected. Repair wasn't cheap, but at least it was done to a high standard at the factory.

Diagnosed as faulty USB socket. Required entire MOBO replacement.
At least the sensor was cleaned and they also replaced a missing rubber cover.

I am sure I could have got it repaired for a lot less but its now got 6 months warranty.

Thanks for the tip on WEX and overall happy with the service.

Glad it worked out okay for you! My repair wasn't cheap either and they had to wait for a part from Sony, but I was happy to recommend them.

Yeah would use them again. It was border line not economical to repair, but in the end decided what else would I buy? Prob another RX100! So got it done.
