I am finding I simply can't take the kind of pictures I want because I am too cramped by London's walls, lightpost other cars, etc. I want to head into the country-side and take some nice shots, but don't want to travel for ages. Scotland is pretty spectacular but I'm hoping for something in North London.

Any thoughts? Perhaps hotels with nice grounds?

It might help if you post a few examples here of the kind of photos that you're aspiring to take, and also how far you're willing to travel.

I lived in Croydon previously and usually went to the sort of car parks where you park to go for a walk, as they tend to have a more natural backdrop.

The major parks have roads through them - Hyde Park, Regents Park, Richmond Park, which may work. It's worth trying to go at less busy times - actually the light evenings now are a good chance to take golden hour photos at 9pm when few other people are around.

As you get further out of London beyond the M25 you'll find laybys and things that can work quite well depending.

Countryside might be tricky - theres not a lot of dramatic countryside locations close to north london.

For something urban, could try the Ikea Wembley multistory car park - go on a sun morn, or a late evening, head to the top indoor floor and it should be empty. Great for symmetrically urban / brutalist type shots, shoot wide and close for dramatic lines from the ceiling and floors. Bonus if its been raining as you might get some puddles in there, for reflections

A golf course perhaps.

I’d be tempted to make it an excuse to get out of London for the day, go somewhere pretty. You don’t have to travel far for that, maybe have a nice lunch and a sit by a river too?

What are you shooting?
What do you actually want as background?

I may be able to help out.
