Canon 77D and compatable Nissin Flash
Discussion
Havent used this combo much, but last night decided to try and get some photos of our friendly fox
tHe Nisin has settings that can be selected A TTL M Sd Sf and wireless
Setting dial put on auto and the flash on A nothing happens when shutter operated
On camera Tv and Av i get a flash but it is either over or under exposed depending on the speed/aperture setting
I havent tried in on the TTL or M setting on the flash nor M on the camera ( nor manual focus) as there is very little light and the fox needs to get on the the spot i have prefocused on
What i am looking for is possibly 'not possible' but to point and shot and get fox in focus and good exposure with flash at any distance up to 5m
Am i going wrong somewhere and if so how do i overcome it, or any wildlife guys/gals out there that can offer suggestions
at least with digital i am not wasting pounds on film and days before i know i buggered it up
TIA

The quickest way out is probably to use EV up or down until the exposure is right. Take test shots to get it right before the fox turns up. Don't use Auto-ISO or it'll fight against you. Or set the aperture and shutter speed to what you want and then with the flash on M, adjust that to get the right exposure. It's generally best to get the proper flash for your camera as you know it'll be 100% compatible.
