Thinking of birthday presents for 18 year old who is getting into photography. Mostly landscapes, sunsets (see other thread), and out two dogs at the minute.
Wondering about a 12 month subscription to a photo mag, but which one?
Not over complicated although he has a "Higher" in photography from school, more something that will improve his photos without either patronising or baffle him. Or persuade him to spend £££££.
Or are magazines a thing of the past?

I use Readly for all my photo mags now. Something like £9pm and there are lots on there.

Rather than a magazine subscription, have a look on Udemy (https://www.udemy.com/courses/search/?src=ukw&q=Photography)

For around the same price as a subscription, there's any number of courses that he may well find more useful.

Thanks,
Having just started a degree course (WFH so all internet/PC based) I was looking for something maybe away from the screen.

Maybe have a look at joining a local camera club.

Will learn a lot more from others rather than reading magazines.

Dougie.

There is one locally I believe, runs through the winter months only, restarting October.

Just as an aside, this thread has reminded me of the Photo Mags from the 80s... particularly (IIRC) Amateur Photographer, that used to sell copies amounts of copies by virtue of their regular articles on 'Glamour Photography'. I'm certain they were published by Paul Raymond! smile

This absolutely the best way; something for everyone from beginners guides to weekly classics such as Amateur Photographer, through to high-brow art and fashion; additionally you get access to years of back issues.

Also don't overlook the foreign magazines on this platform, for example the French Réponses Photo has the best coverage of classic and modern photo journalism you will ever seen in one place.

I'll third that, including the bit about foreign mags. Stuff for every taste. There are one-off mags on, for instance, outdoor photography.

May I suggest joining your local library then downloading Libby and PressReader and logging into them with your library card.

Photography magazines - all sorts of magazines in fact - ebooks and audiobooks all there for free.
