Ok so I am not to clued up on this but my attempts are still poor and I would like to improve on it so I ask your help on what I think I need ! I can't find anything suitable and easy to use at the moment.

I am looking for a camera I can set up on my bench and look on a monitor so I can see what I am recording but also pause remotely ( like a little hand switch wired or not it wont matter , I would like this pause to store so I can come back to it days / weeks later and pick up from where I last finished , now it would also be a bonus to zoom in .

I have a small computer monitor I can put high up to view so hopefully use this , this is for posting on YouTube.

Your suggestions are welcome and a link to the product I need to purchase will be grateful

Thanks steve

An iPhone and table stand.

Something like this:

Record in 4K and crop in with the editing software.

Someone has suggested I use a GoPro as they have a remote red button !

Can you plug a monitor into the GoPro ?

This would be ideal

Thanks steve

Would an iPhone screen be big enough to see what you are recording?

HUGE amounts of vloggers use them on a stand instead of normal or specialised cameras. Android also possible

Pressing red button stops the recording, then press again to start. Miiiiiight be possible to have remote button to start and stop but not my area of expertise.

Hi , I have been using my I phone using an app called nonstop cam set it up on a stand and recorded a blog however I have to phisicaly move reach out put my glasses on and press pause, I want to press a button so it stops saving me doing that , I am not sure if I can go back a few seconds and start from there? But this would be very confusing for me as theirs ate at least 8 pauses or more during my recordings lol

It sounds to me that you could do with developing some editing know how. Quite easy to cut away the bits you don't need.

If you are keen on a new camera, have a look at the Sony Vlog ZV-1 Digital Camera. Designed for exactly what you're looking to do and comes with editing software.

Wise words…..wot he said. (We are in similar lines of work). Download some free editing software, get a decent vlog camera as outlined above and save the faff. Yes you can bend various bits of kit to do this like phones and actin cams but they are all a compromise.

Davinci Resolve has a free version and it will do everything a vlogger needs, plus a lot more. Get it free on a Mac or Windows.

I use a GoPro on my helmet and another on the bike, but they're not really for indoor use, the strengths of a GoPro is it's waterproof, has incredible stabilisation, very easy to swap lens covers if you damage it and it's small and fits anywhere. The video quality is nothing like the Sony camera mentioned above. I'd get one of those and a good microphone. Youtube has 100's of videos about how to do this, mounting the camera on a stand, same for microphone etc.

Do you have an Apple Watch? You can use that to stop and start recording on your phone

Hi I think the watch does the same as the selfi stick ? Only works with the iPhone camera so when you stop it it saves to photos so not a pause ! I can't pause my videos using the camera function in my iPhone without an app one hence I use none stop cam

I don't know of any function of the Android video recording software which allows you to pause and resume recording from the same point, and I would guess the same is true of iPhone software. It's not hard to edit the video to cut off the last few seconds of the recording and splice it into a new clip, and there is loads of free software which will do that - even the software on your phone will comfortable do the types of editing you want to do.

Go Pro is the same btw, you can't pause the recording, it will simply stop the recording and create a new clip when you re-start.

There is no camera I know of that would let you do this. As soon as you stop, it will create a new clip.

Sounds like you've got a concept problem, due to not having any idea how video editing works, same as you wouldn't be able to recommend to me some welding kit that I could just plug in and use in a simple manner, with me never having done any welding before..

Any video editor will just play the bunch of separate clips one after the other in the order in which they were recorded, and you can easily cut bits off the start and end of each clip. But if you don't want to have to learn how to do that then you are going to have an ongoing problem.

I would suggest you have a look at ‘go pro quik’ app, it’s the gopro video editing tool/ app.

i think you can use it for free, and import videos from your phone (so don’t need to have a gopro). It’s fairly simple to use, has some good presets where you give it your videos and it joins them together to make a longer edit.

plus there’s loads of ‘how to’ videos online, as it’s used a lot by gopro users
