Hi - not sure if this is the place to ask, but I'm lucky enough to have just got back from 6 weeks travelling around various parts of Europe.

It made me hanker back to getting into taking 'proper' pictures like I did 10yrs ago before I got lazy and relied on the ever more capable iPhone Pro variations for easy snaps.

I've also always had dirty thoughts about a Leica. Seems to be a perfect time to scratch both itches.

I ditched SLR/DSLRs (and their associated camera bags) years ago because they were just getting to cumbersome and intrusive to grab and go with, so a compact seems a great middle ground.

I could just go for a lesser D-Lux or even a 2nd hand CL, but the Q2 seems like a great option, especially as they can be had for a grand less than they were thanks to the release of the Q3.

SO....question for any photographists still reading.

I'm not a full newbie after years with SLRs, but more than a decade since touch more than just an iPhone button to take a shot, I'm certainly a refreshed newbie. Will the Q2 be a good option to rekindle my interest and learning? Or will it just be a very expensive point & shoot (which I'm still reasonably ok with).

Thank you one and all.

The Q2 is a serious camera - albeit with a fixed lens, that's about it.

Whether it rekindles your interest and enthusiasm for the art is up to you - however owning and using something you're inspired by really does help and there's a good chance you'll be more engaged with it for those reasons. It is a lot of money, however, Leica's (aside from a few with sensor issues) tend to hold their value well, so may not be too costly if it doesn't do the job.

I contemplated the Q2 not so long ago and nearly bought one. It appears to be a great camera. If you mostly shoot street or portraits, I can see it being all the camera you need and a joy to use.

In the end, I went with the Fujifilm X100V as my general 'iPhone replacement' for every day stuff. But that's because I have a Canon R5 and loads of RF lenses as my main system.

If I just wanted one camera and happy for it to be fixed lens, I would go Q2.

The Q2 is an awesome bit of kit with an absolutely superb lens (just loves to be shot wide open), as a do-it-all fixed lens camera its very hard to beat, and Leica depreciation means that the cost of ownership is quite low. A buyer of an original Q at list on release, would find that his camera still retails at dealers for the price he/she paid

It is beautifully made (so it should be at the price) and feels very robust. Leica accessories (inc spare batteries) are little eye-watering but thats the red-dot tax.

I borrowed a Q2 for a day from teh Leica store in Manchester, and whilst it is fantastic, I decided to stay with my combination of a Fuji X100F and Fuji GFX, but if I was in a single lens one camera scenario I would not hesitate at getting a Q2/Q3

So.....I bought a lightly used Q2 with Traveller Kit. They threw in SD card, few bits and a free one hour tutorial to get me going in the next few weeks too.

8 months old so comes with a warranty of 2yrs & 4months. Perfect condition. I've not even opened the box yet, but I'm like a child at Christmas with anticipation.

I'll post pictures once I get round to opening.

Thank you for all the advice!
