I’ll be driving down to my late-Fathers place in Spain shortly. As it will be my final trip out there before we sell the villa, and I appreciate that this might sound silly, but I’d like to document the trip somehow.

I was thinking of a Go Pro type camera that can take a screenshot once every five minutes, then stitch all those stills together to make a film / recording of the journey.

Whichever camera I buy, it will probably be sold shortly after we come back.

What are the cheap Go Pro type cameras like? I’ve seen a few on eBay, but they don’t seem to mention that they are capable of taking pre-programmed still shots over a prolonged period of time, (timelapse?).

Any recommendations gratefully received smile

edited to add;
There’s some really cheap Goodmans cameras on eBay. Are they best avoided?

I’ve been looking into this a little more.

Could a Brinno TLC100 be successfully used as a timelapse dash camera?

Yes I made Timelapse videos of my extension build with one. However the quality is nowhere near a GoPro. Would recommend a GoPro connected to power as the battery life isn’t great. This was made with a Hero 8:

Very nice quality on that Go Pro.

However, from how I understand matters, the maximum timelapse on the Go Pro’s is 60 seconds? And the memory capacity on them isn’t great, and the batteries don’t last very long, (although like you said, they could be connected to a power source).

I’d like to record a journey of 2700 miles. I was thinking of a timelapse photo every 5 or 10 minutes?

I guess the only problem with a Brinno is how to secure it properly to the dash, although there are universal mounts available.

Would agree the Brinno is better suited to less frequent captures. It often looks poor though when played back, very jerky. Here’s an example where I got the timings wrong.

Miniman,

Thank you very much for that demonstration.

IMO, that’s perfectly acceptable for my needs. smile

Just for clarity, that’s a GoPro set to a slower rate. I looked for some of the Brinno footage from my extension but I didn’t keep any - read into that what you will! Enjoy the trip smile

A Brinno TLC100 has been purchased along with a mount for it.

Thanks for your help.
