Been recommended a GoPro 11 with screen mount and some sort of stick for hand holding. What are the alternatives. Are others better or do the same for the same cost.

It isnt likely to get much other use - maybe on the boat , maybe ho0lidays. But probably will end up forgotten in a drawer along with the cine cameras and the 35mm . But it would be nice to put something on you tube for the clubmembers to see.

You can find a camera that will do the job for a third of the price of a GoPro, especially if it's not going to be used much. Screen mount, stick, spare batteries and memory cards and maybe an external mic are all you need.

FWIW I use a Crosstour CT9900.

I've tried all sorts of action cameras and the GoPro 11 is by a long way, the best I've ever used. The footage from the new sensor is exceptional given the size of the camera and the fact it's waterproof and very rugged and has about the best stabilisation and horizon levelling available. It's these things that make the footage watchable. You can mount any camera on a stick or the windscreen but getting usable footage that's stable and level is very difficult if the camera doesn't do it for you.

Daft question but are you looking for videos or still shots? If it's most likely to be stills you'll want a compact with a decent zoom.

Not a daft question at all. Video is the answer. Have a reasonable Sony pocket camera for stills - the GoPro is intended for use on the car, the bike or the boat.

What makes me mention a drawer is that we take photos on trips but rarely if ever look at them again. So why bother?

I've got a GoPro 11 myself, but the DJI Osmo Action 4 seems to have been released recently. There'll be several comparison videos on YouTube! The DJI gets some positive comments.
