Storing old negatives
Discussion
Hi,
I have some old negatives (over 300) that my grandad took, some are over 100 years old.
They have been kept in sleeves in books, but I don't know how old they are
I have had them scanned and got excellent results from most of them, but some had some damage to them, which the photo shop said was caused by the sleeves degrading.
Can I stop the sleeves degrading, or do I need to store them in something new that won't degrade. If so what?
Many thanks in advance, and if you want I can post a picture of the books and sleeves.

I would imagine that storing them in acid-free archival sleeves/boxes would be the way to go to ensure the negatives don't degrade.
This website supplies archival storage products. They are not particularly cheap, but should ensure continued protection. I don't have personal experience of their products, but they do seem to provide what you are looking for.
