I can't remember when I last used my Nikon or even my compact camera, but I do take plenty of photos with my phone. I actually really enjoy the large clear screen and apps like Snapseed for editing the image. The perfect camera for me now would literally be my phone but with a proper lens. High quality images when enlarged or viewed on a TV screen, but with the simplicity and wizardry of a phone camera used to take the photo.
Does this camera now exist? A good example of what im talking about, is this image. Taken with my phone, a pic of Deal pier. I love this, but as soon as it's enlarged the lens quality reveals itself.

Are you shooting RAW images on your phone? That to me is the first step in getting the best out of what your phone can offer.

Shoot RAW, grab a trial of Adobe Lightroom, and see how you get on.

RAW files are best described as "digital negatives". If you are shooting .jpg files and editing .jpg files you are already making a hefty compromise.

He's been around these parts long enough to be shooting raw.

I'm sure you know, It's the size of the sensor in phones that is the problem when you enlarge.

I was in the same situation. Had loads of camera gear, wasn't using it, didn't want to take it anywhere, too big, too heavy, so I sold it. I then carried on taking photos with whatever iPhone I had at the time and was reasonably happy... until I zoomed in or had the image printed large…

I then bought a Ricoh GRIII and it's been the best thing ever for me. Totally got me back into photography. It's tiny. Barely bigger than a cigarette packet but packs in an APS-C sensor, touch screen, optical stabilisation, and a really high quality 28mm lens.

It's so small that I mostly leave it in a pocket of my work bag and don't even notice it's there, but it's great for when I'm around town and see something I like the look of. If I'm out for a walk with the family I stick it in my pocket.

It was money well spent for me. A few years ago I had a Sony RX100 Mk3, which was great, but for outright image quality in something tiny I think the Ricoh is very hard to beat.

It won’t be for everyone due to the fixed 28mm, but for me, it’s perfect. I use it for landscape, travel, city, and family shots. It works very well for those. I have no use for zoom, and the images it produces are big enough that they can be cropped.

No doubt that Imgur will crush the quality of these, but at 100% original size I can pixel-peep them all I want and still be amazed at the clarity and detail.

Google Pixel 7 Pro sems to be the best phone camera link if you really can't be arsed to carry a camera around...

On the other hand - just give yourself a shake and get back into it with a real camera wink

I've only heard good things about the GRIII, and a limitation like the 28mm lens might also make photography more "fun"! Though those photos would probably withstand a crop afterwards if really needed. 24MP is enough to be getting on with in that regard.
