Canon EOS M6 Mark II - your thoughts?
Discussion
Following on from the '£1k travel camera' thread which I nudged into and was pondering about a replacement for my faulty 50D, considering a 90D or switching to a Panasonic TZ200.
As an alternative to the 90D I've been reading about the M6 MkII which I could use, with an adaptor, with my EF lenses.
Is that a sensible idea? It would be purely for leisure purposes: motorsport and aviation, landscapes, holidays and days out using Sigma 18-125 and 50-500 lenses.
The 'novelty' of mirrorless appeals to me but are there any downsides with the M6 MkII?

I have got itchy feet with my Fuji system, as the AF is not up to Sony/Canon levels, so had been looking at moving back to Canon. The EOS M6, and mk2, were firmly in my sights, as they seem like great cameras for photography (they seem to be compromised on video features). In contrast, the equivalent Fuji, the X-H2s, is a hybrid photo/video camera.
I think I am going to get both in to try, as both Canon and Fuji do free 48-hour loans - longer if you can have it over the Christmas holidays. Personally, I wouldn't buy an expensive camera/lens without a decent trial first.

I’ve had one of these for 3+ years. Fantastic camera, thanks to low weight, small size and good ergonomics. The 32/1.4 EF-M Canon lens is one of Canon’s best-ever. Results are indistinguishable from my 5D IV with 50mm lens in many lighting conditions. The Canon 22/2 is quite good and very compact.
I use EF lenses with a mount converter some of the time. My 50/1.8 STM was never a good performer, though, with inconsistent focus even though it ought to work so I bought the Sigma 56/1.4 which is brilliant. For aviation shooting you’ll need the optional viewfinder.
The two downsides of the M6 II are:
1) Canon is no longer interested in EF-M mount so it’s a dead end system. M6 II is discontinued.
2) Heavy battery consumption compared to the 5D range and poor battery indicator. Always carry another battery.
