So my old canon 50d has got a shutter fault and only works intermittently which means I never pick it up, and I’ve not really been “into” photography for a few years now so don’t see myself spending ££ to replace the body.

Where is the best place to sell lenses etc? Is it eBay? From a quick look it seems like the game has moved on somewhat! Seems as if DSLR’s aren’t even a thing any more and canon aren’t using the EF mount on their new stuff? Am I right on this?

Will there be any demand for 2nd hand EF /EF-s kit? I haven’t got anything top end, but some really nice lenses (EF-s 60mm macro, 28mm pancake etc and a few other non canon lenses)

mpb.com and wex will offer you a price for your gear.

whether it's a great price is up to you, but they collect the gear as well. So it is hassle free.

I have sold directly to MBP before and was quite happy, less risky than ebay. Too many scammers there.

OP,

Just so you know, in addition to their RF lenses, the Canon R system mirrorless cameras can use both EF and EF-S lenses with Canon adaptors, and full functionality is retained.
For that reason, they’ll keep some reasonable value.

Thanks all, I had forgotten about MPB. They have given me a quote which I am happy with (could probably get more selling privately, but as mentioned I can't be bothered with scammers / time wasters!)

Got a quote of nearly £900 for a load of gear that has been collecting dust for years, so I am happy!

Thanks PH!

So mpb have come back to say that a couple of the lenses that I thought were immaculate have got fungus on the internal optics.

I’m assuming they are acting in good faith and I just didn’t know.

What can be done? Anything at all? They won’t accept them as presumably they couldn’t shift them. Is there a chance they are mistaken? Is there a way I can check?

If you have wex nearby you can take the lenses in and watch them do the optical tests and they will show you any defects.

No harm in getting quotes from both MPB and WEX. I recently sold a couple of accessories on Ebay as neither of these companies offered good prices for a tripod head and a couple of other bits but both gave realistic prices for the lenses. MPB do check their stuff very carefully and base their pricing probably more rigidly against their condition ratings than perhaps WEX do. I had one lens with a very minor mark on front element (I hadn't even spotted it) which MPB reduced condition rating but WEX were more than happy with so offered more and I went with them. I have bought 2nd hand from both and perfectly happy with both companies.
