Old Leica camera?

This is an old Leica camera that belonged to my father in law, I’d be interested to learn a bit more about it, any experts?
It has a serial number 17766.

You been watching Antiques Roadshow ?

One on tonight just like it, didn't give a price though.

It’s a Leica Model 1 from 1929

A Leica I as already mentioned.

It Has it’s ETRIN case - does the case also contain a long rangefinder and two metal film cassette's? That would be a full house!

If the lens is marked 5cm Elmar then you’re looking at £1k plus if all the other bits are there and it works - they’ve shifted a bit in value since I bought mine for £200.

It might be worth talking to Peter Loy to firm up value (Peterloy.com) as serial numbers etc have quite a bearing on it.

These are lovely to use with the simple viewfinder (calculate your distance from subject) and fit nicely in your pocket.

It’s the ‘production’ Leica and has it’s place in photographic history.

Thanks, I’ll contact Peter, and yes it’s got all of the bits and pieces.
