I've been trying fruitlessly for a couple of hours now. 100mm macro, then tubes etc. I just cannot get a good shot through the 10mm eyepeice. What's the secret? Take it apart? Build my own but bigger?

Never tried it. What's the problem with the photos?

It may be that the little sparkly bits are further away than you think...

For anyone else wanting to experiment.
Removed the front lens of the kaleidoscope, 30mm lens on FF, kaleidoscope touching the lens front, adjusted the distance of the sparklies container to about 25cm.
Still limited dof but useable photos.
