Print mock-up apps
Discussion
Some years ago, before I got into photography, we had some professional family photos done and the photographer had an app on her computer that allowed her to show "mock-ups" of print layouts on a living room wall, to give an idea what the finished product would look like. Now I'm doing a bit of photography of my own I'd like to be able to do this for clients but I've no idea what the app was and can no longer find out directly.
I've had a look on Google and found a couple - Canvy and ArtPlacer. Anyone use these? Any other apps of this type worth looking at?

There's a couple of ways you can do this.
There's online / app resources like that you mention such as: https://placeit.ne
You can download and use pre-specced PSD files from somewhere like here: https://www.mockupworld.co/all-mockups/
For these you just open the PSD file in Photoshop. You'll see in the layers one that says 'Edit Contents'. When you click on the bit you want, a new file opens. You just place the image and size it, save it, and go back to the main document and there it will be with any perspective, shading or shadows all in place and all editable if you need to.
If you subscribe to Adobe CC or Adobe Stock, there's loads of PSD mockups available there.
One thing to watch is that the proportions of the spaces into which you want your image to appear may not align with what you have. I use the same process to showcase designs and often have to re-jig the original artwork to accommodate US A4 size or a slightly different sized billboard advert.

Thanks both, very useful. I hadn't considered that there may be free "rooms" to use in Photoshop, I will have a look at those.

That URL just gives me an error, are you sure it's correct?8bit said:
