Paint shop pro converts image to work space

A really weird one here. One particular picture taken on my phone (others taken at the same time work OK) won't open properly in paint shop pro x (running version 10.01 which is old but does what I want), instead it says image converted to work space and what I get is a black background with vertical lines of colour. Strangely the saved file still appears as a .jpg. This is annoying as Paint Shop Pro has a very nice print layout screen which enables me to alter print sizes exactly and move them round the page, etc all useful stuff and the problem picture is one I want to print at a particular size. ...
Has anyone any idea what is going on here?

If photos taken before and after are OK, my wild guess, never having used PSP, is that the file is slightly corrupt.

Thanks for that. After much messing about I noticed that I'd done a minor adjustment to the problem photo using windows photo (?) and saved that as a copy. Strangely the adjusted copy does open ok in paint shop whereas the original (which opens ok in windows photo etc to view it) doesn't. Guess the original has some slight glitch as you suggest and the saving in windows has corrected that. Took me a while to realise the two images behaved differently though.
All sorted now.
