My wife got our wedding album out over the weekend to find two pages stuck together. I'm 54 so know it wasn't me as I don't do that kind of thing anymore... But whatever it is does need to come off and I don't know what to use that won't damage the prints. These are 27 years old so good old fashioned dark room jobs. Any suggestions?

Warm water.

Remove the photos from the album itself, even if you have to damage the glue holding them into the album. The key thing is to not try to pull the photos apart 'dry', so you need them out of the album.

Once you get them out of the album, place them in luke warm water for a few mins, and then gently peel them apart.

Water won't harm them as they were washed in water as part of the development process anyway.

Some people say warm distilled water is better than tap water, but don't know if this actually makes any difference.

Thank you. We don't know what the sticky stuff is and I suspect I'll need to rub it, so again with warm water? Obviously very gently and with what?

For confirmation, Fujifilm have a section on cleaning and dealing with stuck together photos:

I would honestly not recommend rubbing the photos with anything as it is just too risky.

Photos can naturally stick together over time, so it is possible there isn’t anything on them at all. They are just stuck.

I would soak them for an hour or so and see what happens. They may unstick and they stickiness may come off with no rubbing.

Have a look at the Fuji guide for cleaning.

I had a print of a treatured old photo that had been in a glass frame for almost 30 years. Over time, the photo had touched the glass in multiple places, and had welded to it.

I did a bit of research and warm water with a small amount of detergent did the trick, but I did have to leave it submerged for almost 24h, and peeled the photo from the glass very slowly and carefully. I would get some areas released, but then it would get to a "dry" point where the surface of the print started to to detach. I then started peeling from another direction, and then re-soaked it for another few hours.

In the end, there were a few minor parts of the image that had detached, but I was able to scan the print and touch them up in photoshop.
