Well, that did not go as I expected...

I have a Fuji X-T4 and my wife has an iMac. So, I wanted to start with tethered photography. First I bought a Tethertool cable but somehow the iMac did not 'find' my camera. After searching the internet I found out that you cannot use the 15 feet cable because of lost of data. So, I tried a connection with the cable from the charger of my phone. Hurrah, the iMac found the camera and I could use Capture One.

The cable is only 1 meter, a bit too short. Next thing to do: order the 10 feet cable. Yesterday I received the cable. Unfortunately I have the same problem: the Imac cannot find the camera. A neighbour brought his (newer) iMac and we had the same problem.

Is there anyone who has a solution?

Regards,
Maurice

edit: iMac not Imac...

Is there a USB cable involved? If so, try this:

I use the 10m version to tether my Nikons and it works brilliantly.

I’m using that long Tether Tools cables with a Sony and a Mac Book Pro and Capture 1, never had a problem. I’d it something to do with Fuiji? A menu setting maybe? I have to set mine to PC remote rather than mass storage.

I don't think so because the short cable seems to work just fine (although it is very slow).

This is designed to help with long cable runs, and requires DC power from some other USB source as well...

Well, that is an expensive option/addition.

In the meanwhile I have contacted the store and they informed me that a cable up to 5 metres should work. They thought it could be the cables so I can return them for inspection.

To be honest, Capture is brilliant when it works but shooting tethered is very often more hassle than its worth. There are times when it is absolutely necessary (allowing clients to view the live session is a particularly brilliant feature) but if it's just hobbyist/low volume shooting at home I probably wouldnt bother. It throws up some really unusual and often inexplicable bugs that are fixed with equally odd and inexplicable solutions.

When you used the short cable and you say it was slow, did Capture reject the camera after the first shot? Is the cable USB2 or USB3? Are you able to transfer/tether wirelessly?

Have you tried a different port on the Mac? The USB slot closest to the right hand side of the Mac as you look at it from the front has the most power IIRC.

The tether tools power boost could be a good shout if there is no simple fix. We briefly had to use them until the most recent Capture update for whatever reason.
