Is there anyone who can help me? I have recorded a video on my X-T4 in 4k resolution. However, after I have edited this clip in Imovie I cannot save it as a 4k. The highest resolution I can choose is 760. Some videos on youtube suggest that the first clip in a project determines the highest possible resolution for the output but since this is 4k I am a bit puzzled.
Any suggestions?
Any suggestions?
Couple of things to check.
What's the frame rate of the original footage? iMovie only supports 30fps in 4K - though not sure if that would affect the resolution.
Check any titles, transitions or effects that you may have used. Not all of them support 4K so will default to whatever the max resolution is for those. To check this, go to the effects browser and choose the '4k compatible option' in the search bar.
Did you set the library/project/event up as 4K?
Have you used still images in the edit? Low res photos can bump down the overall resolution.
I can't remember if iMovie uses proxy files but if it does, check that this is disabled when you edit and optimised media is selected.
Do you actually need to export as 4K?

A lot of helpfull tips
Thanks Stevie! I think the clip was at 26 fps, so I will try to start with a 50 fps clip.I wanted to export as 4K as a test. So not really necessary but the other option is 760, which is kind of a low resolution.
At 26fps I think you’ll be fine. It’s a case of anything over 30fps that causes the issue.
Don’t forget that 4k isn’t a singular dimension. Footage from a 4k dash-cam will be different to 4k from a Canon DSLR.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with 4k. It was developed for the purpose of affording fimmakers greater flexibility in terms of crop and movement across the scene in post rather than as a viewing format. But it does generate stunning images.
Almost all of my pro-work is specced at 1080 (HD). Almost all of the stuff I do for fun is 4k.

I don't go anywhere near Apple stuff but a quick Google suggests you need to pay for the Pro version to edit 4K.
iMovie supports 4K but Final Cut Pro certainly does it better with a greater scope of usage. singlecoil said:
Try Davinci Resolve, the free version has extraordinary capabilities. You may need to pay for the studio version in order to get full 4K rendering though, if you feel you absolutely have to have that.
It will definitely render full HD.
This morning I have downloaded Davinci Resolve. Now I am reading the manual: 3.590 pages...It will definitely render full HD.

Well, I did say there was a learning curve… However, you don’t have to learn everything to use it. Use the media tab to get you footage to link to your media, go to the edit tab and edit your footage (which is much like any editor) and then to the deliver page where you have handy presets, add to render queue, render and you’re done.
Ignore Fusion, Fairlight and Color tabs, assuming the colour is acceptable to you out of camera, depending on your setup… otherwise, you might have to read the manual…
Couple of other points, the free version supports UHD 4K, but not DCI, which might be a problem if you shot in that mode. Also, depending on your system, Resolve relies heavily on GPU performance so it might run like a 3 legged dog on crystal meth, but you can go to Playback menu/Proxy mode and drop the playback resolution which might help.
This guy is very good, his Crash Courses will give you a good starting point.
