Be gentle please, I have no photography, or videography knowledge, but I need some advice. I host a very small automotive YouTube channel, which is doing ok. I film all of it on my Samsung phone, which I have various mounts for, and edit it through iMovie. It does everything we need, and until recently, I had access to a GoPro Session camera which I used on occasion.

Now I want to do a bit more with b-roll, and external shots from the cars we use, but the chap who had the GoPro has since left us for pastures new, and I now feel I need to get one for myself as we have lacked those little bits of b-roll and external work. I need it to be pretty much idiot-proof, but still need a bit of quality, and as I had bought some of the accessories for the GoPro (suction mount, etc, etc) I have gravitated towards another one. The channel doesn't earn a huge amount, so investing in an expensive camera isn't an option, however I noticed the GoPro 7 White at around £150. Is this a good camera? It isn't going to be required to do the actual filming of the presenting, but more b-roll stuff, but even so, I don't want to waste money. Is there a better alternative that I should be looking at?

All advice welcome.

Useful review here: https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/should-i-buy-a-g...

It's essentially a poverty spec model of the GoPro 7 range from a couple years ago, non-removable battery and lack of 4k would be the deal breaker for me. I suspect your smartphone may be better suited for the type of footage you're after.

I have some discount codes for the GoPro website (8 owner, Plus member) that give you 20% off. If you can stretch to a Hero 7 Black for fifty quid more that offers 4k, live streaming and hyper smooth (stabilises footage). Battery is removable too allowing you to carry spares.

Another useful review of the 7 range: https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/uk/buying-guide...

Thank you for this. The idea of stabilisation is a big draw, and for 4K too I suppose as the camera will be mounted externally on the car. Also, my editing skills are fairly basic, so the more the camera can do, possibly the better.

I'll look at those reviews, so thank you, and also for you kind offer.
