360 Action Cams
Discussion
Hi
Anyone got any decent real world experience with any of the current crop of 360 Action Cams, ie the Go Pro MAX or Insta 360R ? Looking to replace my Drift Ghost cameras for motorbike trackdays but want something thats fairly straight forward operational, easily editable and with decent picture quality, sound quality not that important as it will be stuck out in the wind most the time ...
I have an Android phone and a MacBook if that has any relevance for editing / functionality.
Happy to hear any views
Cheers

I have a Garmin VIRB which I really like. Although it isn't the latest or technically the best it still produces good quality videos and I looked at the GoPro Fusion (GoPro Max predecessor) and the Insta 360 One X in comparison. I chose the Garmin due to the ability to change the lens covers if you scratch them as you can't with most other cameras and need to send them back if you need them replacing. You also get a really good amount of data from the on-board sensors such as GPS location, altitude, speed etc that you can overlay onto the screen like a HUD and it is waterproof to 10m without an enclosure.
You can pick them up 2nd had quite cheaply now.
This clip is from a head mounted VIRB (make sure you view in 4K)
This is a 1080 hyperframe capture from a VIRB
The mobile and PC apps are ok for editing IMO but lack the bells and whistles of the newer GoPro and Insta apps. TBH if you go with either of the 2 you mentioned I don't think you will be disappointed. The GoPro only uses 1 SD card now as the previous model used 2.

Loads of great stuff ....
Thanks so much, will investigate further ? Also investigating mounts as no helmet mounts allowed on UK or Euro bike trackdays, so looking at tail unit or cockpit options Edited by Tycho on Monday 16th November 09:18
