Canon UC8HI camcorder- advice please
Discussion
Hi, this is a long shot given the 25 years or so age of the camcorder, but here goes!
I have several tapes which I would like to transfer to DVD, I know that there are labs providing a transfer service but I would like to edit the clips across myself.
My problem is that my original battery (a BP-711) will hardly charge from my original charger (a CA-R200), perhaps running for a minute or two and then running out of power. I have also lost the DC coupler (DC-100) to power the camcorder from the charger.
I recently bought a replacement (non-OE) battery which wouldn’t charge at all.
My question is - could anyone recommend a reliable source for a replacement battery/DC coupler or perhaps a VHS cradle which would allow me to insert the HI8 tape into my VHS player and transfer from there?
Thank you,
Dom

The labs you refer to will also be able to convert the footage to .mov or whatever format you need. That's most likely what will be on the DVD anyway.
So you can still take that and edit yourself. Unless you have any other reason to fire up the camcorder I'd get them to do the transfer.

An online service should be able to undertake some basic processing such as time base correction to produce a more stable output.

You can always send them a tape to see how good the result is & it will only cost around £10.
