Hi,

Looking at macro lenses for newborn photography when they arrive.

Has anyone found anything in the <100-150 mark for a 500D

Really not overly bothered about going new on it.

Thanks

Macro? Really?
Which lenses do you currently have? Why macro?

The macro as a portrait lens is a new one on me too.

Bizarre.

Macro, yes, just reading some websites before posting here.

You guys are probably right and macro isn't required but to get that close up I can imagine it probably would be.

Hi,

Looking at macro lenses for newborn photography when they arrive. I've posted in Comp, Gadgets section but didn't realise this was here so I've reposted.

Is macro just too specialist and has anyone found anything in the <100-150 mark for a 500D

Really not overly bothered about going new on it.

Thanks

Do you have a nifty fifty…?
For a newborn it will do all you need.....

Don’t bother with the 1.4 (over budget new), the 1.8 is a peach .....

Latest version of the nifty fity the F1.8 STM version (earlier versions have less aperture blades and can produce odd shaped bokeh)

For baby photography, you can get closer without worrying the subject, so you don't need a long lens.

In the days of film, a 90mm was considered to be a good portrait lens, as it created the right amount of image 'flattening' whereas a wide angle would accentuate the features too much.

I'm not up to date with modern sensor sizes, but on my old 400D, I often use a plain 50mm. Which gives a similar portrait image to a 80mm on 35mm film.
It's fast compared with a zoom, and its low weight makes the camera much more usable.

Well macro all tend to be 60mm or longer quite common at 90mm etc only difference between a macro and non macro is the lens mske up for close focus ability

Not close focus exactly but magnification. With a macro lens a postage stamp will fill the viewfinder, regardless of distance. And if you're not doing that they also make a good quality XXmm f2.8 lens which can be used for portraits.

The OP should consider the classic 50mm f1.8.

Neither of those two lenses are macros, am I missing something?

Best macro lens I use, and is also great for studio portraits is the SIGMA 105mm F/2.8 EX, superb lens.

But, as what's been mentioned above the 50mm 1.8 is a great lens and always in my bag, a cheaper alternative is the 50mm Yongnuo (the snob inside me didn't want to like this) but for a budget lens it's very good also...
