Finally, Nikon announce a mirrorless 24mp FX body with dual SD slots!
Amazon currently have this with a kit lens on pre-order for end of august for £1719. It's not entirely clear if the deal also includes the FTZ adapter as the button says yes but nowhere else in the production description is it mentioned.

This will probably be enough to push me to trade in my D610 at last as the silent shutter feature will come in very handy.

Why didn't they make the body F-mount?

IIRC for a couple of reasons - (1) to make a more compact camera with shorter offset between sensor and mount, and (2) the larger diameter of the Z-mount gives more options for improved future lens design

Furry nuff, thanks.

Website says: '...Nikon’s Z mount—the widest full-frame lens mount there is. More light reaches the camera’s sensor...'

I'm in new territory here but do they mean that, say, f2.8 on this camera allows more light in than f2.8 on another Nikon FX body?

No chap. A 2.8 on doesn’t become a 1.8 on a Z body. But with a bigger hole in the front, it enables the lens designers to make faster lenses. The F mount has been around since 1959 and I guess Nikon finally realised it has run out of steam in terms of capability. Canon have done this 3 time now, from FD to EF and now RF. I believe it’s called progress.

OP. Even on that link you posted it mentions two options. You have to pay more for the FTZ adaptor, so check carefully.

Yes it looks like Amazon have made an error in their listing as the only option they have available right now is Z5 + lens + adapter whereas when you checkout the adapter mysteriously disappears from the item description.

That seems a decent price given the stupidity of the other launches recently

So what they actually mean is 'It's bigger so we can make a f1.0 lens for it'. Such a pity marketing people have to dumb it down until it's meaningless.

I'm sure the Victorians had a bigger hole in the front than a Nikon F-mount...!

And also bigger film. The two have a relationship.

Larger mount and closer to the sensor has technical advantages, nikon have struggled with the old mount for far too long.

Looks good but for pretty much the same price you can get the z6. I’d wait for the discounts on the Z5, however I’m very tempted
