Prints from YT vids. Possible???
Discussion
As per the title.
Looking for some new art for my office and fancying a rallying theme. Is it possible to take screenshots from YT videos and then have those blown up into larger artworks? And as this will be from 1980’s footage, will poor pixelation be an issue?
Finally, can anyone recommend anywhere that can do this please?
Thanks

It'll look fking hideous....
Quick Google and you can get proper artwork/prints for less than a tenner.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Sadly I was wanting specific ‘shots’ which I can’t seem to find anywhere. Toivonen flat out and full opposite lock over a bridge on the Monte in 81, Alen flying high in a 037 on the 1000 Lakes, and Rohl painting four black lines on the tarmac on the San Remo in a Quattro.
Oh well, back to the drawing board:
Instead of trying to get good quality from a (relatively speaking) poorer quality source, it might be possible to artistically degrade or manipulate the screen captured images in an attempt to mask the quality issue.
In addition, the required final image size would also determine how much worse an 80's YT screen capture would actually be in comparison to what you see in the vid, and what you'd hope to see on the wall.
Which YT vid is it, and what size do you want your print to be?

Although I’ve also seen footage of that precise moment in time shot from further up the road, with the Talbot Sunbeam head on, as opposed to from behind, which I think is better quality.
Ahem.
Okay, the source material is worse than I had anticipated...and the results will be exactly as Dave.'s describes. You'd be better off scouring the web for images shared by the photographers who were there on the day (the amount of compression artefacts in the vids makes it not worth attempting, IMHO).

I can't take any credit - that pic is one of the results of doing an image search for 'Toivonen Sunbeam Monte Carlo'. One of the search results was a Pinterest image which I just copied from the site.
There's another Toivonen Sunbeam pic which is really dynamic, taken from an unusual angle with the car sideways at speed, trailing a huge dust plume. Problem is, although its sort of referenced in Pinterest, the full pic isn't available. Apparently its taken from here, although it's a really long rally pics thread:
https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5968607...
However as a quick test I've managed to get that first Sunbeam pic downloaded and enlarged, with a couple of processes applied, to try to get an image that *might possibly* not look crap once its printed. 500x350 @ 300dpi, although there is pixellation, I've tried to mask/hide it with noise.
Not sure of the 2Mb limitation will mean it gets compressed again by thumbsnap but here we go:

filesize should be 26Mb, looks like thumbsnap has decimated it

To create wall art with the required level of detail, you need access to the digital scan of the original print or transparency. You might be able to get this from a dedicated motorsports library.
I'd start with: https://www.motorsportimages.com
They will charge you but the quality will be excellent.
