I don't get it, I really don't. I'm after a second flashgun and a used Nikon SB 800 usually sells for around £120+ if it's in decent nick. Matey boy here has one for sale for £95 but it has a broken battery cover that 'can be purchased for less than £10' but otherwise it's in good condition he says. So if it's that cheap and easy to fix why not buy the bloody thing, reattach it and sell it for a bit more instead of passing the problem on? Seriously, how hard can it be?

Mind you, I've seen this before with cars where 'it probably just needs regassing' or 'it's an easy fix' blah blah blah. I'll forego the obvious question but why are people so fecking lazy?

Rant off!

I'm of the same opinion it's like car adverts which say no MOT but will fly through, I never believe them, always imagine hidden issues.

I guess they hope they will find a buyer who believes it and thinks they will get a bargain.

For cars that apparently need a ‘£10’ fix I’ll tell them I’ll pay an extra £30 for them to sort it before I buy the car. Strangely enough they never do!

Bought a new battery charger on there yesterday. The one I've had for years has poor condition leads and very worn pins, I've repaired it twice; I thought there'd be a run on them because of recent car lay ups.

Anyway, I got a brand new one for less than what second hand ones are being bid up to! Madness. I think many fail to notice the P+P charges. smile

The pins on the battery cover are a design weak spot of the SB800. As it stands you'd need to put gaffer tape over it.

However it has the 5th battery holder, which fits in its place, so you could run 5x AAs and be perfectly happy.

ETA - and having checked, the battery holder has a hinged door which seems identical to the damaged one - so if you could prise it out without snapping the pins, you'd be up and running.

I had a vague idea that, as an owner of two SB800s, my input might have been useful and enabled you to buy the unit at a discount price yet still use it.

He may have just had an hour or so free of his day and thought he would get some of his old gear on ebay.

He's probably not bothered that he might make an extra £15 profit if he buys the new battery cover.

You're the one who wants the item, don't be so fecking lazy biggrin

It was, thanks. I have one already and wanted another, I was just venting at the logic of selling something that was easily fixable on the seller’s part.

Because it means spending money on an issue which may not bother someone else as it can already be worked around by the additional equipment it comes with. There's no guarantee that they'll recoup that extra expenditure and get £120+ for it in what is considered a "fixed" condition when you can buy the same flash from MPB with some form of warranty and comeback on issues for £99 for a good example.

If you were selling a £1000 second hand car with a minor dent in it which a bodyshop quotes at £150 to fix, would you spend that money hoping for top dollar sale or take a punt on someone not being bothered by it?

The sold prices on ebay for the past few days are also quite revealing, several SB-800 units going for under £90.
