As per the title, any suggestions for a budget gimbal/tripod with auto tracking mechanism to attach go pro to?

It would be used to film a car approach and exit a corner...

Thanks, Ed

I'm not too sure what you want exists - I've seen a few smartphone gimbals, where you record on the phone with the gimbals app, then you can touch the touchscreen to tell the software what you want to track, and for the most part they'll do a reasonable job of keeping the subject in frame.

But for a car, which moves fast, and might disappear out of shot at the beginning or end of the shot, I don't think that would work too well. Is it to be an unmanned camera?

I have seen some panning heads for surfing and sports, that track a tag you put on the thing you want to track - but they are not usually that cheap

Ok thanks. Yes I think I've seen what you describe. A product called Taro?

Yes it was for unmanned camera. I was thinking it would be a good option for making short car vids solo..

Whether you could stick the tag on the car roof I dont know..? But assume it needs to track it immediately rather than pick it up as comes into shot?

How about a 360 camera? I have the Garmin VIRB and it's great for action sports. The video is 4K but that is 360 coverage but you can get a nice wide 1080 shot if you want to and you can track objects after the event in the camera software on your phone or computer.

I'd look at the GoPro Max (£360) or Insta 360 One R (£450) if you go new and the Insta 360 has a 360 camera and 4K action cam modules. If you want cheaper then the Insta 360 One X is good as well.

Lots of videos on Youtube to see the quality.

This is a very nice car video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXhDdBiHj5E
