Came across a Hanimex 400mm f/6.3 prime lens, got it very cheap (guessing it's '70's) It's a big bit of metal, it came with a 2x conveter making it 800mm, so quite some reach.

Had idea of using this as a nature lens to couple up with my 1dmkiii.

Not had chance to use it yet, will post a pic when I get it.

Anyone had any experience with using these, I've had a couple of smaller vintage primes with EOS adapters but nothing this big, obviously the IQ won't be on par with anything modern but more abit of fun.

If you have the right one it was made by Tokina.

Google the lens and you'll find some rather nice images taken with it.

I recently binned some Hanimex and Tokina zoom lenses because of mould/algae growth inside them. Is yours clear?

Managed to get out with the Hannimex 400mm, yes it seems clear from inspection.

Once you get use to manual focus, it's an absolute joy to use, stepped down to f/8 it's kinda sharp, some really attractive almost film like bokeh produced aswell.

You really appreciate nailing the focus when you do, we have become so use to AF lenses (obviously they are great) but this is so nice to use.

Went down to my local marshland conservative area, with an abundance of "Sedge Warblers" this time of the year, so here is a few of these noisy little things.

So far, I ain't going to win any nature awards, but quite impressed with this lump of old tubing!
