Hi there,

Lots of knowledge on here so thought I'd ask, had looked at Nikon d750 but grateful for any advice.
What would be the best camera and lens for Motor show photography, so thinking indoors, unnatural light etc.

Around £1500 total.

Thanks in advance.

You need some decent wide angle glass so personally, at that budget I'd be looking at the D7200 which has very good high ISO capability.

Lenses will need to be fast but fast wide angles are generally very expensive. Nikon do a F2.8 14-24mm which from memory comes in at around £1600. Third party equivalents will be a tad cheaper and you may find some on the second hand market.

A Sigma 10 - 20mm comes in at around £600 but is F4 - hence the need for strong ISO capability.

The Nikon 35mm F1.8 is around £200 and well worth having,. Fixed FL but a superb lens. Not exactly wide angle but useful nonetheless.

35mm is wide enough for motor shows... much wider and the cars look weird... hehe

The D7200 has good high iso performance for an APSC sensor, but not in the same league as the full frame D750 from what I've seen (but full frame lenses are more expensive too).

If going wide angle the Tokina options (11-16 f2.8 or 12-24 f4) can often be picked up cheap second hand and perform well.

35 f1.8 is a good shout for Nikon

Fuji mirrorless with the 23mm or 35mm (or even the 18-55 f2.8-4 zoom) would be a good option too if wanting to keep the setup more compact - same APSC sensor size as the D7200 and similar performance, Fuji maybe a little smoother at high iso. Main downside compared to a DSLR is battery life.

Can't really comment on anything specific to motor show photography though as its not something I do - maybe a CPL filter to help control reflections?

Thanks for your replies,it's food for thought. I think I'm going to go for the d750 with a 50mm standard lens and look at hiring more exotic lenses when required.

Good call. I have both a D750 and a D7200. D750 all day.

Look up the Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 two touch lens. Second hand around £300-400. Brilliant on the D750.
